Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)

Calculate the GFR using the The Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation.

Patient's Sex
Patient's Race
Only for adults
Normal or high GFR (GFR > 90 (mL/min/1.73 m²))
Stage 2 = Mildly decreased renal function (GFR = 60-89 (mL/min/1.73 m²))
Stage 3A = Mildly to moderately decreased renal function (GFR = 45-59 (mL/min/1.73 m²))
Stage 3B = Moderately to severely decreased renal function (GFR = 30-44 (mL/min/1.73 m²))
Stage 4 = Severely decreased renal function (GFR = 15-29 (mL/min/1.73 m²))
Stage 5 = Failure (GFR <15 (mL/min/1.73 m²))

GFR (mL/min/1.73 m2) = 175 × (Scr)-1.154 × (Age)-0.203 × (0.742 if female) × (1.212 if African American)

The equation does not require weight or height variables because the results are reported normalized to 1.73 m2 body surface area, which is an accepted average adult surface area.

Scr = Serum Creatinine level
